WHO WE ARE?
JYAPU is the typical name for the indigenous farmer of the Kathmandu Valley. This ethnic race since the early settlements has established its own existence and recognition preserving its own indigenous culture, language, costumes, arts, literature, life styles, traditions etc. This race has adopted agriculture as its main occupation, "DHIME" as musical instrument and NEPAL BHASHA (NEWARI) as its mother language.
In every festivals, feasts and pageants inside the valley this society has the leading role. With the broad mission to preserve and develop its traditional culture, to maintain its impressive role on the society, to contribute towards nations' advancement, raising the quality of life by adopting positive changes JYAPU SAMAJ was established in the year 1994. Since then JYAPU SAMAJ has maintained its own indifferent existence and recognition in present day society.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
This society has been organizing various activities despite its very limited resources and office premises. The Jyapu Samaj, with large members, has ambitious goal with numerous programs, but there is shortage of resources and means. It is underlined fact that the well-developed culture and civilization of Jyapus and their social and cultural structure must be alive, widely recognized and honoured.
Therefore, in order
to conduct regular activities, to develop and
implement most urgent plans and programs based
on the objectives and the goals of the society,
a four storied building is under construction
with building materials and financial contributions
received from various people, organizations,
national and international donor organizations.
The building construction area covers approximately
16298.65 square feet and it is designated as
“Jyapu Pragya Bhawan”, which means
“Jyapu Academy Centre”.
